Italian Design – Discover This Elegant Seaside Villa by John Ike

Transformed by John Ike, this New Jersey house embraces a contemporary style with the perfect touch of Italian design

Italian Design

Located in Deal, New Jersey, this Italian design house, a work from John Ike, is a mix of inspiration and matching contemporary pieces with signature elements of Italian design.

In the report of Mia Jung, who also worked on the oceanfront residence, Ike’s projects always have a narrative. His work invariably displays a responsibility to tell a story through his design and architecture, along with an immense consciousness to detail. Following this historical inspiration, Ike always takes the historic part as a starting point and then converts it to a more contemporary and alive style. This Italian design-inspired villa is the perfect example of that. Based on the architecture present in Sicily, this project was constructed mainly based on black lava and stucco, clearly highlighted on the house’s exterior.

In this article, we’ll show you how Ike, alongside Jung, was able to blend contemporary style with Italian design while also telling a story.

The interior, being the opposite of the exterior, is clear and light. And even though the living room emits the feeling of being vast, the colorful pendants hanging on the ceiling and the ceramic vases, for example, enliven the space and enhance the story that the architect desires to carry.

As Ike wanted to create a retreat from the hustle of city life by constructing an idyllic beach house, coziness was an essential feeling that this space had to provide. To achieve this, the interior designer and John build several seating areas, including the bar, where a stunning wall of bleached-walnut planks with hammered-bronze details catches the eye. But most importantly, the key to connecting all the areas and exhaling comfort is the cozy rugs.

When it comes to elegancy, the star element is definitely the Venetian terrazzo floor and the fluted-plaster mantel, which emphasizes, once again, the Italian design present in the room, but of course, still with a discreet touch of contemporaneity.

This house displays a great sense of personality with uniqueness, and the dining room is no exception. With an artistic design, this room allows the feeling of comfort to spread throughout the area, inviting a beach paradise environment. Some important features that helped to achieve this look were the custom-designed table by Ike and the collection of vintage items present, such as the creative candleholders, the chandelier, and tasteful tiles, which add an artful touch to the Italian design.

This oceanfront villa boasts a contemporary and modern design that generates a pacific atmosphere—combining vintage work, contemporary style, and Italian influence. The last style was realized using a palatial scale, arched windows framed in blackened steel, romantic massing, and a dark façade. If you look over at the staircase, it perfectly reflects this concept. The fluted white oak and blackened-steel panels create an outstanding effect that escalates the blend of styles present in this house.

This residence needed to work as a refuge from the city’s busy life. And, logically, the main bedroom, naturally being the personal home sanctuary for the homeowners, has a major role in providing that warmth. Fortunately, as it was desired, this room successfully acts as a refuge to the city’s bustle. The bedroom owns a vintage Osvaldo Bronsani bed with a majestic aura and engraved zinc artwork from the 1970s. Lastly, the pastel color palette and the delicate texture of the textiles, like the rug, also assist in smoothing the space.

This staggering Italian design seaside villa is a stunning inspiration for your project. It evinces that the blend of contemporary design and the vibrant hues of Italy is a flawless match. This house is the perfect example of an impeccable design inspired by history, and that can smartly tell a story of how contemporary and Italian-inspired pieces can coherently meld.
