Born as London’s answer to New York’s Kips Bay Decorator Show House, WOW!house is now a highly anticipated event, now in its fourth consecutive year, for interior designers from all around the world. Like last year, the event is once again partnering with United in Design, which is an organization dedicated to creating and increasing opportunities for young and emerging creatives who come from underprivileged or underrepresented groups, and so, not only will a portion of the ticket sales will go directly into funding for this organization, but some of these disadvantaged creative’s work will also be incorporated into the rooms in this event. Here are some of the best projects in this event that used a geometric rug to put the audience in awe. Chad Dorsey Design: Warm and Social The entire room is beautifully decorated with flower-like patterns, plants, and other classical elements, as we can see with the usage of decorative elements such as the piano, but also in the furniture that has been chosen. Chad Dorsey chose to include warm colors, such as brown, yellow, and beige, for the geometric rug he chose for this room, which made it so that it perfectly matches and complements the surrounding themes present in the room. The drawing room Dorsey designed has this warm, welcoming feel to it, which makes us feel like we are somewhere that´s chic and educated, but also oddly convivial and inviting. “I looked toward William Morris, Harold Falkner, John Ruskin and the Arts and Crafts movement that began in the eighteen hundreds in the UK and then expanded to the U.S.” -Chad Dorsey Alex Dauley: Escapism Tied in a Luxurious Bow For British designer Alex Dauley’s media room, she took inspiration from hotel lounges and smoky jazz bars, which is where the idea to use this wavy yet geometric rug came to life. She wanted to give the room a sensual, luxurious, and modern appeal, with the main goal being to depict a couple’s retreat to somewhere they escape from reality and read, chat, listen to music, or just watch a movie. When it comes to the geometric rug present in this room, its purpose is more to mimic and follow the sofa’s shape, and to make us reminisce and think of the sea and the beach. The patterns that are present in the rug are relatively simple, since they depict a wave-like pattern, paired with small circles, stripes, and overall colder colors than the rest of the room. It’s almost like the presence of this geometric rug is supposed to make you cool off and relax in a room that is trying to warm you up and make you lose yourself in thought wth all of its beautiful decoration pieces, which serve as a beautiful contrast in this project. Alessandra Branca: Glamour meets Exotic U.S.A.-based designer Alessandra Branca took heavy inspiration from glamorous drawing room designers such as Renzo Mongiardino, as well as the British-inspired canopy beds, which made this guest room feel like a different, exotic yet quiet place, almost like a palace. To match the almost Victorian aesthetic Branca chose for this room, the floor is completely covered with an, at first glance, unapparent geometric rug, but once you set your eyes on it, you understand immediately why this was the rug chosen. A geometric rug, with its lines, brown and red colors, as well as its overall classical pattern, is just what Branca needed to blend the wallpaper and the floor, as well as the art pieces that are hung on the wall, with the rest of the room. “A guest bedroom is a wonderful way to indulge your favorite people while also having a little fun yourself” -Alessandra Branca Nicola Harding&Co: Letting Your Imagination Run Wild For Nicola Harding’s powder room, she decided to use plenty of different shapes, patterns, and colors, but with a focus on using Moroccan-inspired tiles and some focus on the Art Deco period, from which she makes plenty of references throughout her work on this room, most notoriously with the mirror wall. To fit in with the shapes and theme of this room, Harding chose a geometric rug with a beige, yellow, and brown color palette to match the red wallpaper and furniture in the room, but also to create a stunning contrast with the turquoise tiles on the floor. To Harding, it was extremely important that this room wouldn’t feel functional, which was her main motivation factor when it came to letting her wildest ideas come to life and putting her personal touch on this piece. Peter Mikic: Putting the “Wow” in WOW!house Interior designer Peter Mikic says: “The dining room is an area that’s always a favorite of mine, and approaching this project, we wanted ours to feel super luxurious but also convivial.”, and to do so, Mikic chose to incorporate plenty of elements that would induce comfort and relaxation, namely the round furniture and cozy, warm colors that we can find in this dining room. Let’s take a look at how interior designer Peti Lau gave this midcentury home a brand new look by mixing influences, patterns, colors, and modern rugs. Coming from a line of creatives and designers, as this home’s previous owners, this house was sure to evoke an emotional awakening to the creative couple, Maisie Culver and David Imai. Even though they loved the house and were completely charmed by its uniqueness, they felt it needed a breath of fresh air to bring it back to its prime, and so they called interior designer Peti Lau to aid them in this project. By using modern rugs such as the one we saw, as well as other elements, Lau managed to combine clean lines with color and create a contrast with a few callbacks to the Hollywood Regency style. Modern rugs usually don’t use very vibrant colors, which makes them perfect for a project that requires softer, more cream color palettes. The lines in the rug also make for a good contrast when compared with the oval shape of the sofa and some of the other elements in the room, like the round lamps, the record player, and even some of the shapes present in the painting. Most of the modern rugs we’ll see throughout this project use relatively simple shapes and colors, since their purpose isn’t to really be the focus of the project, but to contrast with the aesthetic of the room and create dynamism. Peti uses the color tones and lines to her advantage, maintaining the overall classic, creative aesthetic that this house always had, while simultaneously adding a much more modern and up-to-date look to this living room. Moving on to the dining room, the tone is darker than the rest of the rooms, which meant Peti had to use a much different method in order to maintain this house’s appeal and achieve the couple’s initial vision for this home. In this room, unlike the other modern rugs Peti used before, the patterns are much more uneven and unpredictable; however, they also make us reminisce about animal patterns, which perfectly match the more nature-focused aesthetic of this room. Peti’s early career was spent in Thailand, Mauritius, Europe, and New York, and she thanks this phenomenal international background for making her able to make much more vivacious aesthetics for her projects through the usage of many unique elements, such as wallpapers, modern rugs, and colors. “Peti is a very brave designer, fearless in terms of mixing influences, patterns and colors in compositions that create amazing experiences.” David Imai The primary bedroom is a great example of how incredible Peti is at perfectly blending comfort, relaxation, and design in a single room, all while going beyond her client’s original expectations. The colors and the wallpaper make this room feel like an extension of the garden outside, and not a room in of itself, which makes the use of modern rugs here more of an element to bring you back down to earth, albeit not in a sudden and brutesque way, but more like a smooth, polite reminder. The room has a high presence of different geometrical shapes, namely in the glass panels and the blankets that lie above the bed, yet it also features a wallpaper that once again reminds one of nature and its beauty. Like the other modern rugs we have seen so far, this rug’s main goal isn’t to be the focus of our attention, but rather, to create contrast and add personality to the room, using its light cream colors as well as geometric shapes that remind us of the glass panels. This entry foyer, although it also includes a botanical wallpaper that once again reminds us of nature, is mainly focused on keeping the house’s classic, educated roots in touch with modern times by combining classical furniture with modern elements, such as the flooring and the vase. The modern rugs we see in this picture differ immensely from one another, since the one in the entry foyer is there to maintain a modern touch to the piano, to make sure the room doesn’t seem too old-fashioned, unlike the one in the dining room. After her work was done with this project, the house looked like something that the clients had envisioned: Something new and exciting, that still maintained the very things that made it unique in the first place. Learn how Anthony Baratta and Erick Espinoza turned this apartment from the 40s into a vibrant new home, using creativity, innovation, and colorful rugs. When a young couple approached interior designer Anthony Baratta and his partner, Erick Espinoza, with a project that involved renovating an old apartment from the 40s into a home where their unique, quirky tastes, as well as a means to show off their expanding, bold art collection. According to Anthony Baratta, “When someone is a collector, an interior comes out so much more interesting. It has personality before the design even starts.” This meant that they had to first strip the apartment down to its core, to make way for the lively, bright idea the clients had envisioned. After that, the designers chose to include many different additions, including the colorful rugs we mentioned before. The first rug we’ll be breaking down is located in the living room. Incorporating the artsy aesthetic of this living room, both colorful rugs blend into the atmosphere. They complement both different sections of the living room differently, so let’s analyze them individually. The rug we see closer in the image is striving to mix multiple different shapes, sizes, and colors. Although it focuses mostly on warm colors like red and yellow, it also has blue and black to contrast with the tone of the rug, making it unpredictable. The rug in the other section of the living room, however, is not as colorful, but brings a completly different mood to the table. It mixes black and white, red and blue to make sure you feel the contrast in this particular rug. The pattern is unpredictable and looks unstable since the lines are very different from one another, but the flowers present in this piece bring a sense of comfort and safety, soothing and relaxing whoever is there. The clients have a very strong love for color, patterns, and European design, which resulted in their high involvement in the project. This love for color can be seen all around the house, with their preference for highly colorful rugs and other pieces of furniture, with out-of-the-ordinary design styles and themes. The main bedroom is no different from the rest in that regard. Its main color is pink, and you can practically see it everywhere, from the furniture to the wallpaper. The rug in this particular room features a lot of waves and circular shapes, which bring a feeling of fluidity and peace of mind. This angle shows off a different view of the rug, which makes it much easier to feel what Baratta’s goal was for this room. In this part of the rug, we can see that the shapes use many more lines to separate the different colors and pass on a more geometrical feel. The amalgamation of oval and more rectangular shapes makes this rug feel that much more different from the other colorful rugs Barrata’s has used so far, guaranteeing that every part of this room feels just a bit different from the others. Once again changing themes in comparison to all of the colorful rugs we have seen, the rug in the office has a much more geometrical style, focusing on squares and rectangles, but also introducing a few circular lines to keep the piece unpredictable. “We all got to create something completely fun and completely custom here. The architecture respects the natural surroundings, with a welcoming peach-toned facade, lush gardens, arched windows, and balconies adorned with red flowers. But it’s the interiors that elevate this escape into a true Riviera gem. Ono’s design philosophy is rooted in storytelling, and at Villa Miraé, every room, textile, and finish contributes to the boutique hotel’s narrative. A Palette Inspired by the Coast The hotel’s visual identity draws heavily from the natural environment. Think sandy creams, dusty blues, sage greens, and golden accents – colors that reflect the coastline just beyond the windows. Inside, guests are greeted by a hand-crafted botanical mural from Friul Mosaïque, which sets the tone for the property: serene, organic, and sophisticated. In the reception area, a plush Lelièvre rug anchors the space, surrounded by Popus woven armchairs and Nobilis-upholstered banquettes, all resting beneath a softly glowing gilded ceiling. From White Box to Warmth: The Interior Journey of a Brooklyn Townhouse When interior designer Marc Houston first stepped into the newly constructed Brooklyn townhouse, he immediately recognized its potential. Tucked away in Boerum Hill, the six-story home boasted soaring ceilings and a flood of natural light. Still, its pristine, all-white interior lacks the character and warmth that make a house feel at home.  While the blank slate might have daunted some, Houston embraced it.
